Street Works recently wrapped up a successful on-site training session in Baltimore, Maryland with Precision Pipeline Solutions (PPS), marking the official delivery of a new TCi Street Trencher. This hands-on training not only provided the PPS crew with a comprehensive introduction to the machine but also demonstrated just how much impact the right equipment—and proper use of it—can make on high-demand job sites.
The session focused on three key areas: safe and efficient machine operation, essential daily maintenance, and strategies for maximizing uptime in urban environments. Our expert team guided PPS operators and mechanics through a detailed curriculum that blended classroom instruction with practical, in-field application. From startup and shut-down protocols to advanced troubleshooting techniques, every aspect of the machine’s performance was covered. We also walked through the machine’s quick-change tooling system—designed to minimize delays and keep crews working efficiently, even when the unexpected happens.
Baltimore’s dense city streets served as the ideal test bed. The crew faced a trenching challenge that included 18 inches of combined asphalt and concrete—typical of many aging urban utility corridors. The TCi Street Trencher handled it with ease, producing a clean, flowable trench in just one pass, and maintaining a consistent cut depth and width throughout the job. These results reinforced why this machine is becoming a go-to choice for contractors working in high-traffic or time-sensitive environments.
One of the standout advantages during the session came from our collaboration with Kennametal. We equipped the trencher with the RC4-01 Heavy Body Road King tooth, and the performance difference was immediate. Where crews had previously stopped every 50–60 feet to replace 30–50 worn conical teeth, the new setup allowed for continuous trenching up to 200 linear feet—with just 15–25 tool changes. That translates to fewer stoppages, less labor, and a noticeable boost in productivity.
At Street Works, we’re committed to not only delivering advanced trenching technology but also ensuring our partners are fully equipped to put it to work. We’re proud to support PPS as they bring this powerful equipment into their underground utility projects throughout the Mid-Atlantic region.
